In 1996 I married the girl of my dream, Shura Zhuravleva. She is an outstanding Russian poet, artist and musician. By than time I had written several songs and I didn't know what to do with them. I made Shura another proposal and she agreed again. I should tell that we played without the name for a long time. The name came to my mind when at Volga river bank I saw beautiful roots of the trees washed by water. I decided that the name " KORNI " (Roots) hit off perfectly with the music and ideology of our band. No one even argued. The songs written by Shura gave us direction and helped us find "our face". The meaning of the songs was evangelistic. Later there appeared songs worshipping God openly. It's surprising that our music wasn't accepted and understood by many Christians, but we had a real vision of God and didn't break down. Our music is mostly for unbelievers, it is accepted by them, it doesn't have much of "Christian slang". In modern Christian world there are all the conditions for a person not to have the necessity to communicate with the world of wicked. We have "our own" movies, theatres, even the language. All that serves us, the ones who do not have a need of anything, but it in no way serves the world. Sometimes we see ourselves to be so far away from our fellowmen that often forget about being like them and suffering the same issues and pains not long ago. Yes, we are different now but only because of what the Holy Spirit did in our hearts. This process of shaping our inmost being started. Our problem is that when we meet an unbeliever, we want to show these changes with our whole personalities, the whole flesh. Sometimes it looks a kind of wild, because it's impossible to show spiritual through a physical form, through the flesh. An expensive suit, short hair-style, a Bible in your pocket and a wide smile is not Christ yet, sweet songs, and shouting "Halleluya" is not Christ either. When in 1992 I, a dirty and smoky secular musician tailed along the whole town to get to unknown church service, I wasn't bought with smiles, not with hymns or sermons, but with the love that was shining in the eyes of every believer there. I realized that it was Christ in them, it was an unearthly and sincere feeling. It's very important that unbelievers would see in us normal people - speaking the human language, not neglecting their fellowship, that the Holy Spirit would freely work through us. There is no sense in showing off, because "we have this treasure in earthly vessels" and clay will be clay no matter how you decorate it. Our programme is designed in a way so that our personalities are the minor detail. Our aim is not self-dramatizing (though we are bright and artistic personalities) but drawing attention to the Good News, revealed in our songs. We don't advertize ourselves as a "Christian rock-band", because we are a common rock-band, the thing that matters is that we are Christians, it is our gift. Our aim is to tell people about Christ, not about ourselves, not even covering ourselves with the souce of a "Christian rock-band". And I praise the Lord that 90% of people coming to our concerts are unbelievers. Many people know who we are and what to expect from us, but they still come and bring their friends. Last time there were 450 people at the concert, and that is unbelievable for the town of Tver, especially because there was only one band on stage. And this is not our credit, we are just a lighthouse with the shining light, God put us there and His light is shining. It's amazing that many musicians have our vision. We are the light to the world and our music must be the best as well as everything we do, and this world shold liken to us and follow our example as we follow CHrist, and we shouldn't fix ourselves to the new currents of the world. I believe that God has something special for every one of us, something that the devil hasn't spoiled yet. God gives the ones who ask such an arms for ministry, that devil can't resist. It's even hard to comprehend how good and sovereign God is. DUBOV SERGEY ALEXANDROVITCH born on June 9, 1975 In the " ROOTS" I am a guitarist, author of some music and lyric and the manager of all the band musicians. Became a believer in 1992 unfinished high-school education. In 1991-93 γγ. studied in the Tver artist professional school. May 26, 1996 married Shura Zhuravleva. Besides music I'm fond of graphics and crafts. My pernicious habit - I bite my nails. I'm also fond of reading, repairing guitars, giving concerts and spending time with friends and reading auto magazines. I like music, crafts and cars In my free time I usually sleep, sometimes read detective stories Favorite mucis: Led Zeppelin, Yes, Beatles, Rolling Stones (early years), Eddy Cockren. Favorite musicians: Ivan Smirnov (guitar), Jimmy Page, David Guilmore, John Bohem, Bill Bruefford, John Coltrain. Favorite albums: "Led Zeppelin - 4", Beatles "Revolver", Yes "Time and a Word" I am partial to the actor works of Vasily Livanobv, Jim Carrey, Roger Moore and Bronevoy.Favorite movie - "Trueman Show" I like rolls with cabbage and meat in any form I like animals, especially when they are far away from me, mostly cats and reptiles. I like hedgehogs too, they are funny. Material dreams: Gibson Les Paul Standard (cherry), Porsche Carrera 911, a house. Unmaterial dreams: to build hospitals and clinics with professional doctors, to help the town of Tver develop.
