DO YOU KNOW,
that children and adults
have completely different
views of life?
“... – every morning at 9 o'clock you will read loudly for
me for half an hour. Before this you will clean up your room. On Wednesdays
and Saturdays from 9. 30 till 12 Nency will teach you in the kitchen how
to cook. The other days in the mornings you will sew with me. Than, the
afternoon hours are gonna be spent for the music.
Of course I'm going to find the teacher for you straightway, - she said
conclusively, getting up from the chair.
Polianna screamed in terror:
– My auntie Polly! My auntie Polly! Auntie Polly, you didn't leave
me the time to... to live!
–To live? What do you mean? It seams that you do not live at all!
– Of course I will breath all the time While I do all those things,
but I will not live. When you asleep you are breathing also, but do not
live. To live for me is to do whatever I want: to play in the yard, to
read (for myself of course), to climb on the hills, to talk in the garden
with Mr. Tom and Nency, to learn about houses, people and about everything
around, on the beatifull streets, I have passed yaesterday. This is what
I call "life" auntie Polly! To breatn alone is not the life!”
Print out the page, and join the points in order given
by numbers, and you will know the name of the story by Elinor Porter.
