"Interviewer - Your group performs quite a long time. How do you manage to survive at such a difficult period? Is there any secret?
Stas - We have the richest donator on earth - it is..."

The group "If" was set up in 1987 by a guitarist Stas Bartenev who had earlier performed in groups Black coffee, Parade, Demarche. His name can be found not only in a rock encyclopaedia but olso on CDs of many Russian stars.

Stas Bartenev was born on 26th of February 1964 in Moscow. Finished Gnesiny State Music Vocational School (GSMVS), married, has two daughters. Played in groups Pulse(1970), Mirrors(1980), Black coffee, Parade(1980), Demarche. Worked as a teacher in GSMVS and in a number of rock colleges in guitar classes. Wrote music for TV programmes Good night, kids, From brightening.

In 1987 he starts his own group that runs a lot of charity concerts in juvenile colonies, prisons, homes for disabled and homeless people in military commands. In 1999 the group went on tour to Dagestan, giving concerts among soldiers, sailors. It also took part in a charity programme Share your bread with the hungry, that received spiritual and cultural support from the Church of saints Kosma and Damian in Shubin. The programme was aimed at preparing and running of concerts for needy, aged, disabled people, orphans and prisoners.
In 1994 one of the songs was included to the first double album History of a christian rock in Russia.
The group became a laureate of the First Moscow christian auther song youth festival that was held in the name of Saint Roman Sweetsinger Confession of the heart(1998). The group also participated in the First ecumenical music charity festival Singing christians - 2000 in Moscow. It was rewarded with a Russian Military Fleet diploma for Big cultural and educational work among the marines of a Siberian-Caucasian region.
Today the group If has two acoustic albums A night sight(1998), My beloved(1999) and a rock album Goldem Rus(2000). They are available in many christian and rock shops. A book An acoustic version was published together with verses and chords of the group.
The last album of the group Golden Rus is more instrumentally advanced, more emotional, better thematically aranged. The conception of this album is expressed through the desire to understand themselves, their Motherland and to find their own way in life. Where are we from and where do we go? - these are eternal questions in Rus. Here are all the metters of public concernment: hard drinking and our Russian hit and miss and impatience and passion and love. Rus is compared with a drifting Ark where we are strangers who rely on the Lord alone. Though the songs are easy to understand they are sofisticated in their ideas. This music is not intended for shallow people and for snobs either. The album is characterised by a good, live sound, harmony, drive, phylosophy and a real love for Motheland.

Members of the group:
Stas Bartenev - guitar, a singer.
Aleksandr Inshakov - bas-guitar, back-vocalism. Earlier he played in a group Viktor Zinchuk
Mikhail Sokolov - percussion. Earlier he played in groups Kalinov's bridge(Ivan Smirnov). Stas tells that he is very interesting person, who can play practically any instrument. Strings and even frying-pans and tins are among them. He has a project of his own called Sound environment, where all of this staff is applied.
